Fundraiser Brooke Murgatroyd-Gill walks Pen-y-ghent for Airedale Children’s Unit

L-R: Jodie Hearnshaw, Brooke Murgatroyd, Ruth Matthews

12-year-old fundraiser Brooke Murgatroyd-Gill recently walked Pen-y-ghent to raise money to buy an iPad for the Children’s ward at Airedale Hospital.

Brooke walked the 2,277ft fell with her uncle and brother-in-law in order to raise enough funds to buy an iPad to improve experiences for children at Airedale. She wanted to make it easier for children to keep in touch with their families while they are staying in hospital.

The children’s unit at Airedale provides care and treatment for children and young people up to the age of 18 with a wide variety of health problems.

Brooke Murgatroyd-Gill said: “I walked Pen-y-ghent for the children’s unit to raise money to buy an iPad because I know it’s hard for children to talk to their families during the pandemic due to visiting restrictions.  Thank you to everyone at Airedale Hospital for all that they do.”

Ruth Matthews, Children’s Play Specialist at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are extremely grateful for Brooke’s donation and the hard work that she put into her fundraising.  The iPad will be really useful to help children stay in contact with their families. It will also be a great distraction for children while they are undergoing procedures; they’ll be able to watch videos and play games to take their mind off things a little.”
