Gayle Mill reopens!

Cultura Trust has re-opened the doors of Gayle Mill to the public. The Mill will be open throughout the summer holidays. Special events are planned in September for Heritage Open Days, 10th - 19th September.

Gayle Mill has re-opened to the public after three years of essential restoration and maintenance work, including almost eighteen months of lockdown caused by the pandemic, during which staff and volunteers were unable to fully support the mill because of shielding or travel restrictions, and the public were unable to visit.

The Mill is open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday from 10am until 4pm. Guided Tours take place every hour on the hour. Visitors can turn up at the mill without prebooking but under COVID-safe restrictions, numbers are limited so to be assured of places, visitors are asked to call 01969 629348 or email crafts@gaylemill.org in advance.

Cllr Jill McMullon, Chair of the local Parish Council, welcomed the news on a recent visit [photograph attached]:

“It is wonderful to have this amazing community asset open once again. It will add greatly to the diversity of the visitor attractions in Hawes.”

Stuart Parsons, Gayle Mill, said:

“We have opened informally over the last month or so to test our procedures and make sure we can offer a safe and memorable experience. Supported by a new guidebook produced by volunteers steeped in the history of the mill, and souvenir photographs that capture its atmosphere, we have something very special to offer.”
