Richmondshire residents to get new bin collection dates

Households across Richmondshire are being advised of new bin collection dates.

North Yorkshire Council is making changes to its waste collection days for the area as part of an overhaul of the service.

From Monday, collections will take place between Tuesdays and Fridays, which the council says will allow it to provide a more reliable service and also reduce the need for bank holiday disruptions.

Residents affected have been sent letters explaining the day of their new collections for both rubbish and recycling.
Households whose collection days are not changing will not receive a letter.

Harry Briggs, head of waste operations and streetscene at North Yorkshire Council, said: “To ensure our waste and recycling service is as efficient as possible, and the same for all North Yorkshire residents, we are making some improvements to collections.
“They will take place between Tuesdays and Fridays. This will mean a more reliable and consistent service for you, as well as a reduction in bank holiday disruptions.”

Collection days will not change for garden waste customers.

The change is part of an overhaul of waste services which aims to provide a standardised service to all residents following the launch of the unitary council in 2023.

The whole county will adopt the system currently in use in Selby of alternate fortnightly collections for recycling — one for paper and card, and another for glass, cans and other recyclable materials.

Areas currently using boxes and bags for recycling will get two 240-litre wheelie bins instead.

Non-recyclable waste collections will continue to be on a fortnightly basis, as will garden waste collections for those who subscribe.
Council officials say they do not yet know when Richmondshire residents will move to the new system.

Residents’ new collection dates will be available at www.northyorks.gov.uk/calendar from Monday.
